Manual handling claims

Manual handling injury claims

If your job requires you to move objects as part of your role, your employer is responsible for making sure legal guidelines such as the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 are followed, to reduce the chances of accidents happening. However, according to the Health and Safety Executive, manual handling injuries account for around one-third of all incidents in the workplace.

Manual handling injuries can happen in any workplace. If you have suffered an injury whilst moving or lifting an object at work, and you believe your employer or another colleague was at fault, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. Our specialist personal injury lawyers have the knowledge and expertise in all areas of UK health and safety law and can guide you though the process of making a workplace injury claim.

Manual handling injuries

Injuries caused by manual handling can vary from back injuries, cuts, and bruises to more serious Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) which are injuries or disorders of the muscles, nerves, tendons, joints, cartilage, and spinal discs. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) are conditions in which:

  • The work environment and performance of work contribute significantly to the condition; and/or
  • The condition is made worse or persists longer due to work conditions

Injuries of this nature can often cause long-lasting pain and suffering, permanent damage, or disability. If your employer has failed to give the proper training or equipment that resulted in your injury, they could be held accountable.
